𝗖𝗗𝗛𝗶 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 (𝗛𝗜𝗦) 𝗕𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴

Gondar, March 7, 2025 – The CDHi- Center for Digital Health and Implementation Science at the University of Gondar successfully held its biannual review meeting for the Capacity Building and Mentorship Program (CBMP), bringing together key healthcare stakeholders from the Amhara Regional Health Bureau, Gondar city and Central Gondar ZHDs to assess and enhance regional health information systems (HIS).

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁:
• The meeting was officially opened by Prof. Binyam Tilahun, PhD,MPH,FIAHSI, CDHi’s founding director, and Vice President for Research and Community Service at the University of Gondar. He highlighted the essential role of data in healthcare transformation and stressed the importance of ongoing capacity-building to enhance the region’s health information system.
• Progress & Future Plans: Getasew Amare presented a comprehensive progress report on CBMP, while the Amhara RHB shared insights on health data management improvements.
• UoG Hospital’s HIS Focus: One of the key discussions revolved around the University of Gondar’s CS Hospital HIS. Challenges in implementing the system were examined, with special attention given to the progress of the EMR system and the remaining steps toward full implementation. The conversation also centered on enhancing service quality to facilitate smoother transitions and to ensure the long-term success of the EMR system.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱:
• The governance and leadership of HIS were key discussion points, emphasizing the importance of strong leadership for future growth.
• The sustainability of HIS efforts in adapting to evolving healthcare needs was another focal point, with participants stressing the importance of keeping systems adaptable.
• Digitalization efforts, such as eCHIS, which align with national objectives to improve health data across Ethiopia, received particular attention. Attendees were also given a preview of the upcoming National Health Data Week, which will emphasize the crucial role of data in improving healthcare outcomes.
