Asmamaw Atnafu Ayalneh (MPH , PhD)
Associate Professor
Dr. Asmamaw Atnafu is an associate professor of health systems and policy at the institute of public health, and also chief academic director of the college of medicine and specialized hospital, at the College of medicine and health sciences, University of Gondar, Ethiopia. He received his Ph.D. at the Seoul National
University, South Korea in Healthcare Management and policy in February 2018.
Currently involved in many tasks such as teaching and advising post-graduate students in health policy and health economics area. He has been teaching of Health economics, econometrics, economic evaluation, health policy analysis and leadership, management, and governance. He also advises many postgraduate
students (masters and Ph.D.). His research interests focused on the area of health care financing, economic evaluation, health policy, health service utilization, elderly health, and chronic non-communicable disease and other various fields.
Asmamaw is currently a core team of eHealth and a member of different national and global health systems projects funding from major national and international organizations including; Ethiopian Ministry of Health, Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, WHO, NORAD and others. He has been leading the implementation science research team funded by Doris Duke Charitable Foundation (DDCF) a five-year collaborative project to provide capacity building and mentorship in the implementation of the information revolution agenda in the Amhara and Benshangul Gumuz regions since 2019.
He also led the Training and mentorship program of the mentorship partnership project (CBMP), moreover worked as a member of the Dabat health surveillance site research team. He has also run a research project entitled “Access of Primary Healthcare services and elderly health services utilization, Noncommunicable
disease and Health disparity mapping in Dabat and Gondar Health and Demographic Surveillance Site, Northwest Ethiopia”, “Effect of Health Extension Workers multicomponent intervention on Blood Pressure control among hypertensive patients in northwest Ethiopia”. Additionally, he was also involved in a project of social health insurance implementation in Ethiopia and Universal health care assessment and strengthening project in Ethiopia which was collaborated by Seoul National University and Korean Foundation for International Health. He has published more than 45 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
