
University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital Recognized as a Model Institution in the Information Revolution Successfully Held!
Gondar, March 11, 2025 – The CDHi (Center for Digital Health and Implementation Science) at the University of Gondar successfully held the Comprehensive Teaching Specialized Hospital Model Status Recognition and EMR Progress Review meeting. The event focused on key aspects of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) implementation, the launch of Evidence-Based Care (EBC), and efforts to strengthen awareness, sustainability, and recognition in digital health.
The event was officially opened by Dr. Asrat Atsedeweyn (President, University of Gondar), who emphasized the importance of digital transformation in healthcare. Dr. Aynishet Adane (Chief Executive Director, CMHS & Specialized Hospitals) spoke about the Information Revolution, the current status of EMR implementation, and the vital role of evidence-based care in strengthening healthcare systems.
✅ Presentations:
- Tibebu Tadesse (Planning and HMIS Coordinator) presented the overall success of the Information Revolution (IR) at UoG Comprehensive Hospital, highlighting key achievements and progress.
- Dr. Abebew (OPD Coordinator) shared key lessons and experiences from hospital visits in Addis Ababa (Tirunesh Beijing General Hospital, Yekatit 12 Hospital, and Petros Hospital), focusing on best practices and insights for EMR implementation.
- Dr. Mesoued Mohammed (Statistics & Information Lead, Ministry of Health) outlined the MOH’s vision for achieving an Information Revolution through CBMP.
- Dr. Tesfahun Melese (ICT Directorate of the University of Gondar and Director of Digital Health at CDHi) provided updates on the current EMR progress status and future plans.
🎁 Computer and Tablet Handover: To further support EMR implementation, CDHi donated computers and tablets to the University of Gondar Comprehensive Teaching Hospital.
Recognition & Certification: Special recognition was awarded to key contributors to UoG’s IR success, including UoG CSH, Prof. Binyam Tilahun, CBMP, and Dr. Mequanent Melese (Clinical Director). Additionally, Abraham Tarekegne (Quality Corporate Director) provided an update on EBC policy and officially handed over the guideline document to all UoG hospital service offices.
Professor Binyam Tilahun PhD, MPH, FIAHSI highlighted the need for strategic commitment to EMR sustainability, addressing challenges, and establishing a Service Model and EMR Model Woredas to advance digital health initiatives. The event concluded with a discussion on hospital and EMR-related challenges, followed by closing remarks from Dr. Muluken (Strategic Affairs Lead executive officer ), who summarized the key discussion points and emphasized the importance of collaboration and commitment to advancing digital health.
