Overview
The Africa CDC formed a task force in 2018 to develop Health Information Exchange (HIE) guidelines. These guidelines were validated through workshops in various African regions and endorsed by the African Union. Three countries, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Uganda, are in the process of adopting elements of these guidelines. The Ethiopia HIE document aims to domesticate the AU guidelines, initially designed for surveillance data exchange, to encompass broader aspects of health information systems within and between countries. It’s intended to enhance Ethiopia’s health information systems and facilitate information exchange with other African nations and organizations like the Africa CDC and WHO.
