Dessie Kiber (MSc)
CBMP Project Coordinator
Dessie Kiber is a Senior Public Health Expert with over 15 years of expertise in health system strengthening, health information system development, and capacity building in Ethiopia.
He currently serves as the project coordinator for the CBMP at the CDHI within the Institute of Public Health at the University of Gondar. In this role, Dessie leverages his extensive experience to support the information revolution agenda and strengthen public health systems.
Prior to this, Dessie held a technical specialist role at the Data Use Partnership Project (DUP), an initiative funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. In this capacity, he played a pivotal part in creating model districts and health facilities to advance the information revolution agenda with embedment in Amhara Regional Health Bureau.
Dessie has also demonstrated his versatility and commitment to public health assessment and response initiatives development during armed conflicts and the COVID-19 pandemic in the Amhara region.
Earlier in his career, Dessie served in various other influential positions, including:
- Monitoring and evaluation coordinator for the Amhara Region CDC project, where he strengthened regional health systems
- Technical assistant for the Ethiopian Ministry of Health, contributing to the development of strategic plans and revisions of national guidelines
- Lecturer at Debre Markos University, sharing his expertise in health informatics
- Plan, monitoring, and evaluation lead for the Amhara Regional Health Bureau
Dessie’s educational background, including a Master’s degree from Addis Ababa University and an undergraduate degree from the University of Gondar, has provided him with a strong foundation in public health. He has also co-authored a peer-reviewed publication on tuberculosis case notification in the Amhara region.
Throughout his diverse career, Dessie has consistently demonstrated a commitment to leveraging health informatics, data-driven approaches, and capacity-building initiatives to improve public health outcomes in Ethiopia. He has extensive experience and multifaceted expertise in the field of public health.
