
Debrework Tesgera (PhD)
Associate Professor of Public Health
Dr Debrework Tesgera is an Associate Professor of Public Health in the school of nursing collage of medicine and health science, University of Gondar where she has been a faculty member since 2012.
She completed her both undergraduate and Masters degree at University of Gondar. She completed her PhD study in public health in 2021 with a dissertation focus on maternal health She has over 16 years of experience as a health professional, educator and researcher. She has background in nursing and public health, with specific training and expertise in research ethics, grant writing, Implementation research and project management. She has been served as a clinical coordinator, coordinator for Nursing PhD program, was also head of the school and Post graduate office coordinator of the college of medicine and health science. She actively worked in different institutional committee assignments as a member and chairperson in the College of Medicine and health science, at University of Gondar. Among which strategic planning, institutional research ethics review board, center establishing committee for emergency preparedness and response, and clinical trial center are few. She was active member of the Presidential Mentorship Program implemented at Debark University, mentoring female university students and also a board member at “kalen binakafil” local humanitarian association which is home for the elderly orphans and mentally disabled.
She was involved in different research and project proposal developing team as a PI and co-investigator among which four won either local or international grants.
She has published over 26 peer-reviewed health system researches on the area of reproductive maternal and child health. Her research interests lie on maternal, neonatal and child health, implementation science focusing at improving health system and public health including health information system. She successfully coordinated and managed research projects to completion and collaborated actively with researchers in several other disciplines. Currently she is a Postdoctoral fellow in health system and implementation research in Lihiket 2.0 program.
