
Adane Nigusie (MPH, Ph.D.)
Assistant Professor
An accomplished public health researcher and behavioral health implementation science specialist with over 15 years of professional experience in Ethiopia’s health system, spanning academia, research, and health program management. He holds a PhD in Public Health, with his doctoral research focusing on the effect of stage-matched educational interventions on institutional delivery utilization, in which all five objectives were published. This work applied a human-centered design approach within an implementation science framework. He leads initiatives to strengthen evidence generation, research capacity, and the translation ofresearch into health policy. He has taught and supervised master’s and PhD students particularly in qualitative research methods and delivered Public Health courses such as Health Promotion, Global Health, and Health Ethics for over five years.
His research interests include:
- Implementation science and health systems strengthening
- Behavioral health interventions and community engagement
- Malaria elimination strategies
- Maternal and child health
- Digital health solutions in primary health care
Has extensive experience in designing and managing large-scale implementation research
projects. He has led and co-investigated multiple national and international studies, including:
- Digitizing Primary Healthcare: Implementation research on WHO Digital Adaptation
Kits (DAKs) - Sustaining and scaling up the LAUNCH Intervention in the Ethiopian Health System
- Impact of Partnerships for Clinical Research Capacity Strengthening
- Evaluation of Primary Health Care Services in urban Ethiopia
Authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications that have contributed to advancing knowledge and informing practice in areas such as health service utilization behavior, cervical cancer screening, COVID-19 prevention, health system resilience, and maternal and child health services.
Previously, held leadership positions including Head of the Department of Health Promotion and ealth Behavior, and Coordinators for Team Training Programme at the University of Gondar.
He is recognized for his strong skills in qualitative and mixed-methods research, evidence-based health program design, and translation of research into practice.
Since 2016, I have been a member of the eHealth Lab at the University of Gondar, now known as the Centre for Digital Health and Innovation (CDHi). I have contributed to the qualitative data collection, analysis, and interpretation team, and have also served as a trainer. Within the team, I have participated in various trainings related to eCHIS, CBMP, mentorship, project proposal writing, National EPI evaluation study supervision, and manuscript writing. Since 2023, I have been a research team member of the Digital Adaptation Kits (DAKs) project under CDHi.
