On May 7, 2025, the Wogera Woreda Health Office, in collaboration with the Center for Digital Health and Implementation Science (CDHi) at the University of Gondar (UoG), celebrated Data and Digital Health Week through a vibrant event that brought together health facility heads, health information experts, and all officers from the woreda office.
Under the theme โInformation-Based Decision-Making for a Strong Primary Health Care Unit,โ the program emphasized the critical role of data in enhancing health system performance.
After the woreda health office head officially opened the event, plan, monitoring and evaluation department coordinator presenting the monthly performance report. This was followed by a reflective discussion with the head and deputy head of the woreda health office to:
โข Review monthly achievements
โข Assess data quality
โข Problem identification, prioritization and designing strategize for improving those challenges and setting directions to achieve remaining targets of the budget year in the next two months.
To drive performance, the woreda health office introduced accountability, and recognition system to rank the health facilities based on their performance. High-performing health institutions were recognized, while those with lower scores were encouraged to adopt best practices from their peers.
Key focus areas for next period included:
- Vaccination Coverage: Institutions were tasked with identifying unvaccinated children and implementing targeted interventions at the cluster level.
- Measles Campaign Preparation: Health centers were briefed on campaign tasks and urged to closely monitor progress.
- Enhancing Data Use Practices: Health centers should strengthen performance monitoring functionality at case team level, community and facility level.
- Celebrate Data and Digital Health Week: All HFs should cascade and celebrate the event with their staff including health extension workers.
- Action Plan Development: All facilities were instructed to prepare and implement actionable plans aligned with the final quarter’s goals.
The event concluded with a strong, shared commitment to data-driven action and continuous collaboration across all units.
