Overview
The University of Gondar (UoG), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH) of Ethiopia and Digital Health Activities (DHA), has established a National Interoperability Academy and a Community of Practice called the Ethiopian Digital Health Interoperability Network (EDHIN). This initiative aims to overcome interoperability skill gaps by providing sustainable technical support to the MoH and other stakeholders, establishing local capacities for improved skillsets and knowledge on interoperability solutions, and promoting the implementation of the national eHealth Architecture (eHA).
Priority
- Provide technical support to the MoH for implementing the eHA and interoperability
- Establish a national community of practice on interoperability and provide continuous support
- Develop and offer high-quality training programs on interoperability and related topics
- Identify and develop interoperability use cases for key digital health initiatives
- Document evidence and experiences on implementing interoperability among digital health systems in Ethiopia
Achievements
- Established an interoperability academy and lab at the University of Gondar
- Formed a multidisciplinary technical working group
- Conducted training for MoH, partners, universities, and regional health offices
- Developed training curriculum and modules on interoperability
- Established the Ethiopian Digital Health Interoperability Network (EDHIN)
- Developed a website, wiki, and forum for the EDHIN community
