Position: Research assistant
Duty Station: Selected woredas in Agrarian, pastoralist, and urban regions in Ethiopia. Appointment place (research setting): Amhara (Dessie City Administration), Afar (Dubti), Oromia (Limu) and Sidama (Bensa)
Required Number: 5 Research assistant (1 for each study woreda)
Employment: Contract: (12-month duration of study)
Salary: Based on the project’s scale
Project Overview
The University of Gondar’s Center for Digital Health and Implementation Sciences (CDHI) has partnered with the Ethiopian Ministry of Health to conduct a prospective follow up study to assess measles vaccine potency and children’s serological protection in Ethiopia. The study will evaluate children’s immunologic response to measles vaccination, nutritional status, and household conditions in selected woredas across Agrarian, pastoralist, and urban settings. As part of this study, CDHI-University of Gondar would like to announce a vacancy for qualified research assistants responsible in managing the research work in the study woredas.
Position Summary
CDHI seeks for skilled and competent research assistant that will base at the selected woreda health offices’ to coordinate the overall research work. The research assistant will serve as the woreda focal person for the study, ensuring smooth collaboration between the research team, woreda health office, health facilities, data collectors, supervisors and community in designated woredas across the Agrarian, pastoralist, and urban regions.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate day-to-day implementation of research activities in the assigned woreda.
- Act as the main connection between the central research team and the Woreda Health Office, and health facilities.
- Support recruitment and follow-up of study participants in collaboration with Resident Enumerators.
- Oversee and ensure integration of facility, and laboratory data collection.
- Support data collectors, supervisors, and phlebotomists working in the woreda.
- Facilitate community engagement activities with local leaders, health extension workers, and caregivers.
- Ensure adherence to study protocols, and ethical guidelines.
- Monitor data quality, solve field challenges, and report progress.
- Prepare woreda-level updates and submit regular reports to the central research team.
Required Skills:
For data collectors
- Master’s degree in in Public Health or related health sciences.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience coordinating health research or programs at woreda/facility level.
- Strong knowledge of immunization programs, vaccine supply chain, and child health services.
- Experience supervising multi-disciplinary research or health teams.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in local languages in addition to Amharic and English is an advantage
- Willingness to reside in the assigned woreda for the study duration.
- Excellent community engagement experience and skills
- Have driving license for motor bicycle
