Project Overview
As part of the national Capacity Building and Mentorship Project (CBMP), the University of Gondar โ Center for Digital Health and Implementation Sciences (CDHI) is leading the implementation of the CBMP program in collaboration with Addis Ababa University, Jimma University, Hawassa University, Haramaya University, Mekelle University, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. This consortium supports regional health bureaus and woreda health offices to achieve the country’s information revolution agenda.
The project aims to strengthen digital health, data quality, and information use culture to meet the goals of the Health Sector Transformation Plan (HSTP) with a focus on the Information Revolution in 100 woredas across Ethiopia.
Specific Objectives include:
- Improving data quality and transformation of health information at subnational levels
- Enhancing the culture of data use for evidence-based decision-making
- Advancing digital health and HIS in health facilities
- Strengthening the capacity of RHBs and zonal health departments on data analytics and evidence generation
- Expediting digitization through engagement with local universities
- Building implementation science research capacity within universities and among policy makers
Position Summary

CDHI is seeking a Research Coordinator to support the CBMP+ project by managing implementation science and operational research activities under the program. The role involves coordinating research activities across the CBMP consortium universities, supporting research capacity building, supervising data quality assessments, conducting mentorship activities, writing grant proposals, leading and participating in data analysis and report writing, and managing the dissemination of findings. The Research Coordinator will be integral to the project’s knowledge generation and translation efforts and will report directly to the Deputy Project Director.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Coordinate the design, implementation, and monitoring of implementation science and operational research under CDHI.
- Conduct mentorship and supportive supervision for implementing woredas and health facilities.
- Collaborate with CBMP universities and key partners to identify research priorities, develop protocols, and ensure ethical compliance.
- Support the development of research capacity within CDHI and consortium universities through mentorship, technical support, and training.
- Lead and conduct data collection, quality assurance, and analysis activities, report writing ensuring adherence to high research standards.
- Facilitate timely preparation and submission of scientific outputs including manuscripts, policy briefs, and presentations.
- Support the development and execution of learning agendas and evaluation frameworks across the center activities.
- Maintain active communication with stakeholders including the Ministry of Health, Regional Health Bureaus, and academic institutions regarding research progress and outputs.
- Organize and lead knowledge-sharing workshops, research dissemination events, and stakeholder dialogues.
- Assist in preparing donor reports and ensuring research-related documentation is compliant with donor and institutional guidelines.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Deputy Project Director of the center or other Director.
Job Requirements
Education
- Minimum of a Masterโs degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Informatics, Biostatistics, or related fields. Advanced degrees (MPH, MSc, or PhD) in implementation science or applied research are preferred.
Experience
- At least 4 years of work experience in public health or health systems, preferably in digital health or health information systems.
- Demonstrated skills in qualitative and quantitative research design, data analysis, and academic/scientific writing.
- Track record of research work and strong experience in preparing technical reports and research outputs.
- Familiarity with CBMP program priorities and working with health system actors (MoH, RHBs, universities).
- Proficient in data analysis software (STATA, SPSS, R, or qualitative analysis tools like NVivo or ATLAS.ti).
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Strong English language skills (written and verbal) are essential.
