
University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital Recognized as a 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻!
𝘎𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘳, 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩 11, 2025 – The University of Gondar‘s Comprehensive Specialized Hospital has been officially recognized as a Model Institution in the Information Revolution by the Federal Ministry of Health Ethiopia! This recognition highlights UoG’s leadership in HIS, EMR implementation, digital health transformation, and evidence-based care (EBC) policy integration.
The event was officially opened by Dr. Asrat Atsedeweyn 🇪🇹 who emphasized the importance of digital transformation in healthcare. Dr. Aynishet Adane spoke about the Information Revolution, the current status of EMR implementation, and the vital role of evidence-based care in strengthening healthcare systems.
𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀:
• MoH Commitment & CBMP Success: The MoH reaffirmed its dedication to the country’s digital health future, with CBMP – Capacity Building and Mentorship Program in Ethiopia playing a vital role in UoG CSH’s rapid progress.
• EMR Update: Dr. Tesfahun Melese Yilma provided an update on the current GondarCares progress status and future plans.
• Technology Handover: CDHi donated computers and tablets to support EMR expansion and enhance digital healthcare delivery.
• Launch of EBC Policy: officially handed over the Evidence-Based Care policy guidelines to strengthen the hospital’s decision-making process with data-driven insights.
• Recognition: Special recognition was awarded to key contributors to UoG’s IR success, including the hospital, Prof. Binyam Tilahun, PhD,MPH,FIAHSI, CBMP, and Dr. Mequanint Melesse Bicha.
As UoG CSH sets a national example, the next steps include expanding EMR sustainability, integrating advanced diagnostic tools, and fostering a collaborative approach for continued progress in Ethiopia’s digital health journey.
The event concluded with a discussion on hospital and EMR-related challenges, followed by closing remarks from representatives from the MoH, who summarized the key discussion points and emphasized the importance of collaboration and commitment to advancing HIS.
